Laser Hair Removal Guide

Pre-Treatment

Welcome to Hair & Skin Laser Solutions, please review this document before your  appointment. Laser Hair Removal has become a popular choice to rid unwanted hair for both Men & Women.  We use the best medical grade laser machine on the market with proven results and clinical trials.  To ensure safety and to get you the results you want, please review the information below:

1. The area being treated should not be exposed to sun, for fair skin at least 4 weeks prior to treatment, for dark skin at least 6 weeks prior to treatment.

2. If you are on any medications please advise the clinic as certain medications can increase photosensitivity that can interfere how your skin will react to the laser.   Also, if you use any retinol product, discontinue use two weeks prior to your appointment.

3. The area to be treated should be shaved (with a razor) prior to every appointment.  A good shave is extremely important, not only for the best results, but also comfort during the procedure.  If you have waxed/plucked/threaded or used any other hair removal method (other than shaving) prior to your appointment, please inform the clinic as we may have to adjust your appointment date.

4. Do NOT apply creams/lotions/ oils or makeup to the area to be treated.

Post Treatment

Depending on your skin and hair type, your skin may feel like you had a minor sunburn, most feel nothing  post treatment.   It’s important not to expose the treated area to heat (hot showers, sauna,  intense exercise etc.).   Tight clothing rubbing against the treated area may also result in skin irritation or rashes.    The above should be avoided for at least 3 days.

If you have purchased a package of sessions from us, continue to avoid sun exposure until all  your sessions have been completed.  Tanned skin dramatically increases the risk of burns, your technician may cancel your appointment if severe or have to lower the settings to accommodate the extra melanin in your skin. These factors can affect your final result, increase chances of burns and hyperpigmentation. If you are dark skinned, your risks increase two folds!   If you can’t avoid the sun, use a strong sunscreen with at least SPF60.    Your technician will recommend a schedule based on your skin/hair, the area being treated and your progress to date.    For best results, avoid going more than two weeks past your recommended schedule date, doing so will affect final results as may miss an entire hair cycle.

In-Between Appointments

It will take a series of sessions to get the desired results, the number of sessions required will depending on many factors, your technician will explain this during your initial consultation or appointment.    Your hair will grow back in between sessions, with each treatment we damage the hair follicles until they no longer produce hair.   If hair removal is required between sessions, the only option is to shave with a razor, DO NOT WAX, PLUCK or THREAD!  Note: Shaving in between sessions is not required, it is a personal grooming choice; you will however need to shave prior to your next appointment.
